About this project

This is a fully functioning client-side implementation of a map pedometer written in pure SolidJS, full code and offered as-is. I'd even offer some support setting it up on your own domain, and of course, take it down from mine. Offer amount is completely negotiable. Basically, enter your address or general area and autocomplete uses free-tier api calls to look up results. Click a place in the list and it loads the map on your spot. You can also detect your location given browser/OS permissions. Uses MapLibre in Solid for maps implementation. Once you pick a location, you click points on the map to draw lines between them. There is a switch for route following or straight lines. The route following uses another free-tier api to route GPS coordinates of known-walking paths between the two points. Then the distance is calculated, and plotted for you live on the map. Toggle the calorie counter to enter in your height, weight, and pace and figure out how long the walk/jog/run will take, and how long your walk will be. It uses a special calculation grid crafted with GPT, so the results are semi-accurate (and surprising). Really let's you plan a cardio workout in your area super easily. Vibe coded this by myself over the course of a few weeks, using Codex using a strict, best-practices AGENTS file including a policy to make the code readable. (I was reviewing every line myself and I'm sure it's decent).

Original vision

I wanted to basically plot unique walking paths and hikes and figure out their distances. Making all of the points and locations on google maps and organizing them was way too confusing when you walk laps around a few blocks, it get's impossible to figure out. There are limited solutions for this online already, most riddled with ads and hardly functioning, Plus, I wanted satellite maps and a cleaner UI for it. I took it upon myself to create my own solution for these purposes. It works well!

Why it's available

I feel like this could be useful as part of a suite for a fitness tool, or could bring in money with ads. I just haven't had the time or inspiration to monetize it myself.
